What's In the Journal

Someone (you know who you are) asked what I put in my watercolor journal. Watercolors, of course. :) Here's one I did this morning of Alexandra Keller.

One recycling/art trick -- I use old egg cartons as my water containers now when I paint. I get twelve separate little pools of clear water to use before I have to dump and refull, and I don't pollute my brush with a different color every time I change shades.

Excellent tip and gorgeous work! Why watercolor as a medium?

Thank you, ma'am. I've painted in acrylics and oils, and have done pastels and other mediums, but I've been fascinated by the transparency and fluidity of watercolors since I first tried them out. They're very unforgiving, and at the same time, they convey the light better than anything I've ever used for artwork.

My favorite mediums are graphite, acrylics, and colored pencils. I haven't painted with watercolors in a very long time. My fingers are itching to try it again.

Do you sketch your drawings before you paint?
