The Elusive Red

The toughest birds for me to photograph are cardinals. I've been trying to snap a picture of one for about six years now, and they're so hypersensitive to sound that they always fly away before I can take the shot.

At least they are unless you distract them with a couple pounds of birdseed:

This one is a bit crooked because I was so excited that I fumbled the camera.

This is the shot I wanted. Beautiful little guy.

Yours is so much happier! My husband keeps shooting this cardinal outside his office window and it's always full of attitude. We call him the Angry Cardinal. http://www.flickr.com/photos/33rdprime/4109386888/

Charlene, yours looks like he just got done beating the crap out of another bird! lol! Tough guy, that one. Lynn's does look happier but then, look at his cafeteria.

As shy as they are, I had a pair of cardinals build a nest in my climbing rose bush this past summer, not three feet from my back door. The rose bush climbs over parts of my deck, the dogs spend time out there with me and yet, they set up housekeeping.

Of course, I only saw them when they were streaking away from the nest as I would come outside, then rush back to it the minute I vacated the deck.

Great shot!

My husband has been waiting and waiting to see a cardinal at our house, I had told him that I used to see them every winter here in the desert (he's a Georgia boy). Finally, last week he saw a male cardinal in our back yard, and there was much rejoicing. :-)
