Conversation with a Mantis

Mantis: "Hey. Lady. Why did you kill my tree?"

Me: "I didn't kill your tree. I trimmed off one branch that was getting ready to fall on my roof. You were just standing on the wrong leaf at the wrong time."

Mantis: "I'm homeless. You've turned me into a refugee. And you killed part of my tree. I'm not living in an amputee oak."

Me: "I have not amputated or killed anything, but I'm starting to think about it. Look, there are plenty of other trees in the yard. Go live in one of them."

Mantis: "I can't walk that far. Your dogs will eat me before I reach it. See how that little one is staring at me with her evil black eyes--"

Me: "All right, I'll carry you over to another tree."

Me: "Here you go. Have a nice life. Wait, hold still so I can get one more photo for the blog."

Mantis: "Drop dead, tree-killer." (zips up new tree)

Lizard King

Spotted this little guy basking in the sun atop a fence post. Looked quite regal.

We had a sun shower the other day; something I haven't seen since I left South Florida:

I found this in an antique shop. If it's right, I think He's gone literary on us:

Still not ready to plug back in and start blogging daily again, but I'm slowly getting there. Mornings like this help:

Journal Beauty

I've been trying to make my journals more visually interesting with found objects and small mixed-media collages that tie in with whatever I write for the day.

A peacock feather left over from my GSC crazy quilt project made it into the journal today (which is good because it's been stuck in my paintbrush jar gathering dust since last April):

I used a piece torn from of an old watercolor I wasn't happy with as a backdrop because the outside feathers got lost against the dark green of the journal page:

Now if I can just figure out how to glue-stick an old canvas into my journal . . . .

Skye 4 Months

Our new addition, once so small . . .

has grown so much she's now twice as big:

She's probably going to be longer and taller than Cole:

And she loves to chew on, carry around and sleep atop my shoes (no one else's; just mine.) Maybe we should have called her Cinderella.
