Dusk

This is probably the latest/darkest twilight shot I've ever taken -- about a minute before the final rays of sunlight faded away. Spooky but very neat.

Beauty Above

This guy flew over my head while my daughter and I were out on a nature walk. I only got two shots of him (the other is a fuzzier version of this one) but I think he might be a red-shouldered hawk.

Sunbeams

This morning it seemed like the sunlight had turned itself up a couple thousand watts, and streamed down so bright and solid I felt like I could touch it:

As soon as it touched the roof, things got steamy:

It even turned the dew into diamonds:

I'd like a few thousand more mornings like this one.

Pickup this Journal

. . . without using your hands.

Oh, piece of cake.

You can clearly see two pups and two feet involved in the process, which should also dispel that nasty rumor about me having a peg leg.

Down by the Woodpile

While I was walking Cole this morning we meandered by the woodpile. Evidently the weeds haven't heard that winter is just around the corner:

Other wild things were showing off their colors like brazen hussies:

Lichen is also spreading like wildfire over the bark of our oaks, where some of it grows out into these beautiful, alien-looking little tufts:

Nature does what she wants when she wants. I really like that.

A Perfect Moment

My guy and I went for a drive by the lake during what was a spectacular sunset in a completely clear sky (this photo and the others that follow it have not been retouched in any way):

The sun disappeared, but the glow on the horizon didn't fade for another half-hour. I took about a million pictures while we drove down to our favorite spot, where I saw this guy in the water:

I got out the truck and zoomed in on him:

Then I walked to the end of the pier and zoomed in as close as I could, to get this shot:

I wonder if at that moment the bird thought the world was perfect. I know I did.

Weed Rebel

Found growing on the side of the road in a patch of weeds:

Beauty pops up in the oddest places, doesn't it?
