Wrought Rose

I have walked past one particular wrought iron gate a couple dozen times over many years, and yet today was the first time I noticed this detailing:

I noticed it only because I was obliged to stand next to the gate for a few minutes while waiting for someone.

I love little architectural details like these, and I can't believe I never noticed it before now. Makes a good visual metaphor, though:

Stop and see the roses!

The roses look sad though, like they'd once protected a grand entrance, only to fall to disregard.

Funny how we see some things for years but never really look at them, isn't it?
