Beach Birds

We made a pilgrimage to the shore today, and I snapped some pics of the locals:

These little guys are very shy, and tend to run away, but I managed to sneak up on this one:

This one sums up everything I feel when I get back to the beach:

Yep. Free as a bird.

When DD2 was little, she used to envy the birds and how free they looked when they just took off into flight. She really wanted a bird. I tried to explain to her that if she caught it, it wouldn't be free anymore, but she insisted.

I gave her a big container of salt and told her if she could put the salt on a bird's tail, she could have the bird.

I spent a small fortune on salt that summer, but it kept her busy in the yard and was a good lesson in how sometimes, no matter how hard you work, it isn't meant to be, but you learn a great deal in the process.

And the birds were still free :o)
