Beading Grapes

I made a small beading discovery as I was working with some furoshiki, which is Japanese wrapping cloth. The one I was quilting into a bag had some widely-spaced grape clusters in the pattern:

I wanted to embellish the fabric in a different/unique fashion, and I didn't like the spaces in the grapes too much. My eureka moment happened when I placed some round faceted crystal beads on the fabric to fill in the spaces in the grapes.

This is how they look after I sewed them in place:

That looked so cool I had to try a variation, this time with some pearl beads:

Unless you have a particularly sturdy material you probably won't want to pile on this type of embellishment. But the effect is really cool, and makes the grapes pop.
