Beaded Snowflake

From my Tote from Hell project, detailed here at my author blog. Note the slightly-askew bottom center branch of the snowflake.

Full Rainbow

This lovely sight appeared right over my house today:

It then echoed into a second rainbow:

All those gorgeous colors painting my patch of sky made what had been a very stressful day end with peace and understanding:

$1.50 each

Always warms my heart to see I'm well-represented, even at the flea market's cheapie USB stands.

Don't Touch!!

I'm wondering if that's a warning or a side effect.

Kinda Creepy

Evidently three decapitated, leering jester heads are supposed to be fun, not creepy. I must have missed that memo.

Grass Spiders

I have to start watching my step when I walk the pups, as the fall always brings back these little red spiders who live in my grass and build the most intricate, delicate webs imaginable.

The only time I can photograph them is first thing in the morning, because their webs are so fine you really can't see them without a glittery coating of dew.

The spiders themselves are about as big as a freckle. I didn't know they had black eyes until I blew up one of my pics 300% and finally saw them.

Weapons

At the flea market, a wall of what the boys assured me were BB guns. What I can't figure out is why you'd need a BB gun that looks like a semi-automatic weapon. Are squirrels really that tough?

Bejewelled Cranky

I'm back to photographing the morning dew, this time on the flip side of one of Cranky's newest blooms.

I like cropping these shots in series to look at the finer details of the dew drops and the plant.

Cranky's roses are always lovely, but dressed in dew they're almost spectacular.

Looking Down

Today when I walked the dogs I made a point to look down and photograph any neat things I saw:

Small butterfly (or moth, maybe? He was fuzzy-bodied) who looked drab brown at first glance before he opened his wings to show his beautiful autumn colors.

Not a fan of mushrooms -- I have to pick them whenever they pop up so the dogs won't try to eat them -- but this colony was near a neighbor's fence where the pups don't walk, and kinda cute.

The best shot of my walk -- a dragonfly who held still just long enough for me to snap this pic (I also hid behind a tree, which helped.)

Cranky Blooms Again

My cranky rose bush produced hardly any flowers all summer, so of course the moment the weather turns cool and all the other roses go dormant she bursts into beautiful blooms.

Glowering Sun Keylace

Detail from one of my Keylace BookLoops, which I'm talking about at my author blog today. The frowning sun is a button I've been saving just about forever so I could use it in a special piece (you always see glowing, smiling suns, but when was the last time you saw one that glowered?) I have ten thousand other weird buttons in jars, waiting for the same reason.

Dragonfly

I spotted this lovely bug in the grass while I was walking the dogs this morning, and when I came back sans pups to the same spot he hadn't moved.

On closer inspection I confirmed he wasn't going anywhere, and it made me a little sad to realize why.

He and his buddies have buzzed around my yard all summer (I love watching their wings glitter in the sunlight), and I've wanted to paint them, but they never lit anywhere long enough for me to take a reference pic. So in death this little guy gave me one last gift: a chance to get close enough to take one.

Afternoon Rainbow

This lovely sight greeted me as I was out walking the pups:

Ever since that guy on Youtube had such a fit over a double (or was it triple?) raindow appearing over his yard I've been keeping a close watch on the skies around mine:

By darkening the exposure of the shot -- and that's all I've done to enhance it -- I was able to bring out two echoing rainbows directly under the main arc of this one:

So maybe every rainbow is a triple rainbow. I'd have a caniption fit about mine, but it's too early and I need more tea. :)
