Shelter Cat

My favorite shot from my Shelter Cats slideshow. Had to sigh over it one more time.

Surprise Sundog

I stopped on the road to photograph the silhouettes of some birds on the overhead wires, and noticed a smudge of color in the top corner of the shot.

It was a sundog; the first I've seen in about six months (I also darkened the exposure of this shot to better show the colors.)

The only other soul looking in that direction was this little guy, which seemed to sum up the whole thing for me.

You are never . . .

. . . as alone . . .

. . . as you think you are.

When Flowers Won't Do

Grow cabbages! Ha.

Holy Cow

I unloaded the trunk with my 1000 Cards Project to photograph a couple of cards, and I know I really should take (better) pics of the entire thing. Only I don't think I have a horizontal space in my house large enough to contain them.

Did you ever do something big for a very long time, finish it, set it aside and then go back to it a month later and think Holy Cow maybe I am crazy?

One Last Mountain Shot

I meant to post this with my other trip pics and somehow forgot it, so I'm tagging it on the end of this week's posts. At some point I'd like to paint this bridge in watercolor; for some reason it's really fascinating.

I'm not a fan of mushrooms, but while I was out walking the pups this tall, interesting specimen caught my eye.

The shape of the top reminded me of a tightly-petalled flower like a mum, if it were made out of browned meringue.

From underneath it looked like one of those frilly, fussy sun shades that Victorian ladies used to carry. Pretty neat, I thought.

Le Buzz

Did you ever realize that the words buzz and buzzards start with the same four letters?

Guess Who's Back

Yep. She built the nest while we were out of town, and hasn't left it for the last week, so I imagine there are some eggs in there. In January, the ditz.

Is she smirking at me?

Yeah, that's definitely a smirk.

Grass Spinner

I darkened the exposure on this pic of a grass spider & web to bring out more of the fine details, with somewhat frustrating results. I don't think the web would have been visible to me at all without the morning dew beading it, and the spider is the exact same color as the brown bits of grass, so you can't really see him that well (he's in the center of the web.)

The good news is that I now have Adobe Photoshop, which I'll be teaching myself over the next couple of months, and hopefully will learn how to bring out more in my problem pics.

First Flowers of Spring

This bunch of tulips caught my eye the other day, and they were so perfect I had to bring them home.

Old Bridge

Whoever believes that winter is colorless needs to visit the mountains. :)

Mountain Fountain

There's a little cluster of shops in downtown Gatlinburg where I spotted this beauty.

Kat's First Snowman

The very first snowman ever built by my daughter (small, I know, but there wasn't much snow to use as building material.)

Up in the Clouds

Probably the most disconcerting moments of the trip were when I stopped to take a picture and realized that the white fluffy things floating a few feet away from me -- almost close enough to touch -- were clouds.

Snowy Waterfall

As cold as it was in the mountains I didn't expect to see much in the way of running water, but there were little waterfalls like this all along the road.

Forests of Ice

Driving up the mountain led us through forests of trees silvered by frost like these, cloaked by fog and glittering like a fairy world.

River Bird

My guy and I saw this big bird standing on the roof of a building in the mountains. He was so far away I had to use the zoom to snap this pic.

I had time to take only one more shot as he flew away, which is why this second pic is blurry and off-kilter. I was mad, too, because he was beautiful and I wanted to take more.

Mr. Bird then kindly landed on a stone in the creek a few feet in front of us, and posed for a half-dozen more pictures.

Pics from the Road

While we were in the mountains I saw so many barns like this, seemingly ready to collapse and yet still in use.

Off to Snap

I'm on a road trip this week so I'm putting the photoblog on a brief hiatus until I return, at which point I hope to have lots of pics to share. See you next week.
