I stopped on the road to photograph the silhouettes of some birds on the overhead wires, and noticed a smudge of color in the top corner of the shot.
It was a sundog; the first I've seen in about six months (I also darkened the exposure of this shot to better show the colors.)
The only other soul looking in that direction was this little guy, which seemed to sum up the whole thing for me.

I unloaded the trunk with my 1000 Cards Project to photograph a couple of cards, and I know I really should take (better) pics of the entire thing. Only I don't think I have a horizontal space in my house large enough to contain them.
Did you ever do something big for a very long time, finish it, set it aside and then go back to it a month later and think Holy Cow maybe I am crazy?

I meant to post this with my other trip pics and somehow forgot it, so I'm tagging it on the end of this week's posts. At some point I'd like to paint this bridge in watercolor; for some reason it's really fascinating.

I'm not a fan of mushrooms, but while I was out walking the pups this tall, interesting specimen caught my eye.
The shape of the top reminded me of a tightly-petalled flower like a mum, if it were made out of browned meringue.
From underneath it looked like one of those frilly, fussy sun shades that Victorian ladies used to carry. Pretty neat, I thought.

Yep. She built the nest while we were out of town, and hasn't left it for the last week, so I imagine there are some eggs in there. In January, the ditz.
Is she smirking at me?
Yeah, that's definitely a smirk.

I darkened the exposure on this pic of a grass spider & web to bring out more of the fine details, with somewhat frustrating results. I don't think the web would have been visible to me at all without the morning dew beading it, and the spider is the exact same color as the brown bits of grass, so you can't really see him that well (he's in the center of the web.)
The good news is that I now have Adobe Photoshop, which I'll be teaching myself over the next couple of months, and hopefully will learn how to bring out more in my problem pics.

Probably the most disconcerting moments of the trip were when I stopped to take a picture and realized that the white fluffy things floating a few feet away from me -- almost close enough to touch -- were clouds.

My guy and I saw this big bird standing on the roof of a building in the mountains. He was so far away I had to use the zoom to snap this pic.
I had time to take only one more shot as he flew away, which is why this second pic is blurry and off-kilter. I was mad, too, because he was beautiful and I wanted to take more.
Mr. Bird then kindly landed on a stone in the creek a few feet in front of us, and posed for a half-dozen more pictures.
