Hot Birds

I've noticed on hot days like this one the lake birds will stand still while holding their beaks open -- maybe a way to cool off?

Bird Week

I've been bird watching down by the lake, and got in enough neat shots to make our feathered friends a theme for this week. To start off, here's a bit of a bird party on the docks:

Clocking In

Probably one of the very first generation of time clocks -- massive, lots of internal cogs and gears, very cool.

Templarific

Several dagger-type letter openers, including one that sports the Templar's passion cross.

Wishing Window

Another beauty I wish I could have brought home and installed somewhere, but not practical.

Shapely Storage

I liked the simple shape of this chest of drawers -- gave me a bit of a Freemasons vibe, too.

Soup's On

Serving soup used to be such an elegant practice (and can you believe the price on this set was a mere $20.00?). We might have gained more time by inventing the microwavable soup container, but we lost a lot of style.

Mad Hat

I think my aunt used to wear one of these to church.

Antiques Week

This week's pic theme is all about antiques, and what I've spotted while out browsing at my favorite shops. Like this neat horsie bowl:

Calm Lake

Another shot of the lake -- so calm that I think I'll make it my new meditation image.

Spring Reflections

As you've probably guessed by now I also celebrate Spring by taking the camera, looking for little moments of beauty and taking a picture wherever I find it.

Spring Gardening

Just in time for this week's theme we had our first rose of 2013 bloom -- on Cranky, naturally, who tried to bloom all winter, too:

Spring Walks

My guy and I love to take walks by the lake anytime, but during Spring the weather is a bit kinder. Here's the sunset we watched this past weekend:

Spring Promo

If I have a book being released in Spring I like to shop for items I can use as promo giveaways. I found this very cool backpack at Target, too; I'll be stuffing it with signed books and other goodies for some lucky reader to win in May.

Spring Cooking

Here's a pretty typical Spring dinner at Casa PBW: organic Italian salad, ziti and garlic rolls; all homemade by me.

I try to gather the family around the table for a meal together whenever I can, and no matter what the season is Italian food generally works as the best lure.

Sping Journaling

In Spring I start running low on journals, so if I don't have time to make up more of my own (which I haven't) I hit the stores. This year I went by Target and found these four:

I like to have a variety on hand, but lately I've been looking for something a little different, too. I like raiding the stationary shelves at Target because they always have some neat journals, often regularly discounted, too:

The butterfly journal has plain ruled pages, but the other three all have some neat printed designs on every page:

Spring Desk Clean

Another way I celebrate Spring is to clean out my desk. This year it didn't look too bad:

At least until I pulled all the stuff out of the cubbies to dust:

I don't know how I accumulate so much junk. Anyway, here's what it looks like after I finished dusting:

I know, not much difference from the top picture. But I did get rid of a lot of dust!

Hang Spring

Winter is finally giving over to Spring here, so I thought I'd devote some photos this week to how I celebrate it. Here's a lovely sunflower quilt that I bought at the county quilt show this year; I love the composition and how the maker managed to patch the composition out of nothing more than little squares and triangles. I always have quilts hanging around the house, but during Spring I change most of them to florals or lighter pieces to give more of that Springtime feel to the house.
