June Weaver

Back in June I took the dogs out for their final walk of the day, and nearly walked into this ambitious critter:

The web was a foot taller than me and twice as wide. Since orb weavers like this fellow help catch a lot of other, pesky bugs during the night, and always take down their webs by sunrise, we simply went the other way.

How do you manage to not walk into these? They're huge! Also, unbelievable what they put up and take down overnight.

Oh, to have half that energy! They are so remarkable. And what beautiful symmetry.

On a side note: I've sure missed you...I was gone for the past month or more because my mother-in-law was ill and hospitalized. We thought she was finally getting better, but it was not to be. She passed a week ago last Friday. I adored her so it's been difficult.

Charlene, I always take a flashlight with me now when I walk the dogs at night -- although my guy usually does that for me since even with the torch my night vision is terrible.

Theo, I'm so sorry for your loss -- and I apologize for not replying to your comment before now. Much happening here, too, and not a lot of it good, but I'll be more on top of things now that I've settled one major issue.
