Abby Napping

This is Abby, my mom's pup, who spent Thanksgiving with us so Mom could go visit family down south. Abby is also a rescue dog; she was found terrified and wandering the streets by animal control. Despite her stray status Abby is very friendly, gentle and sweet-tempered so we believe she once was cared for, although no one ever claimed her.

Abby only had one more day to live before euthanization when (happily) my mother met and adopted her. I know it's not possible for everyone to adopt a pet, but if you are thinking about a puppy or a kitten as a gift for your kids this holiday season please visit your local animal shelter. There are hundreds of lovely and lonely critters there just waiting for someone to bring them home and make them part of the family.

Poor Abby! But she's such a lucky girl to have found your mom.

Though we've had several Dobes, we adopted our second rescue about 5 months ago now. He was emaciated to the point where he had no strength left to stand when they found him. That was in April. No one ever claimed him either though someone took the time to do his tail and ears so someone must have wanted him.

But he's sweet and kind and curious and full of energy so we know he's most definitely NOT the 5 years they guessed at. More like just turning two now we think.

Shelters and rescues have such wonderful animals available. And sometimes I think they know how lucky they are to have been chosen.

Abby is slavishly devoted to my mom, and quite well-behaved, so I think on some level she does know how lucky she is.

Your boy sounds like a wonderful pup, Theo -- thank you for rescuing and adopting him.
